Dan Dubansky and Structured Cable of VA to Donate Scholarships for Swansboro Elementary Students to Attend PAL Summer Camp

Dan Dubansky “accidentally” became a mentor at Swansboro Elementary School through the Richmond Jewish Coalition of Literacy, and it was one of the best accidents he has had! He came to the school for one day to read with his wife Deane, and now in his second year with the program, he is mentoring five 3rd grade boys.

These boys are bright, but they have family and economic issues that could keep them down.  They can’t walk to a friend’s house to play due to who they might encounter on the way. Now Dan Dubansky, is being contacted by their teachers and the principal when they have disciplinary issues.  “I’m hopeful that my involvement may increase their chances of beating the odds, which are often stacked against them,” he says.

To help beat those odds, Dan has gotten involved with sending some of these boys to The PAL (Police Athletic League) Summer Program, a partnership between the Richmond Police Department and the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. In the last nine years, this program has served over 2000 kids between the ages of six and fifteen from the city of Richmond.

The PAL Summer Program is designed to “provide Richmond’s youth with a safe environment to participate in a wide variety of sports and educational opportunities.” Dan hopes to provide scholarships for 5 boys at a cost of $600 each for two summer sessions.  for one or two summer sessions. Some of the money is coming directly from him. He is asking friends for donations. Male role models are especially lacking in the boys’ lives; so, Dan hopes others will also feel free to join him one day to see what’s going on at Swansboro.

He is even raising some funds for the Summer Program through his business, enlisting help from employees, customers & vendors of Structured Cable of VA.  Another source involves inviting groups to come preview a new integrated system which can control your security, entertainment, lighting, door locks and HVAC all through one remote control or even through your computer or iPhone!

Structured Cable is making a donation to the PAL Summer Program for each person who puts together a group or comes in as part of a group in June. If many groups attend the presentations, Dan hopes to be able to help more boys attend this summer camp program.
